The Etheree of Nash Gamett

“Excuse me for just a moment”, Nash said as he stood and left the room. He returned with a book and opened it up once he was seated again. “Someone even wrote an etheree about me,” Nash said as he handed the book to May.  She read it immediately.

“Looking back it was a blessing in the end. A masked wrestler, by the name of The Yellow Cat, did become Governor,” Nash said. " After he was unmasked, all the hype was gone. He didn’t even run for reelection”.

“What happened to him?” May asked.

“I guess you are going to look him up.”

“Probably.”

“Well his real name is Elliot Blair and he owns a small cafe outside of Houston.”

“Is he happy?”

“ I think he is. People tell me he does not talk about his past.”

The Career of Nash Gamett

Nash poured May the last drop of coffee. “Do you feel better now?”

“Much so,” May replied, “and thanks and I really  thank you for not calling the police.”

“So now you have met Nash Gamett aka The Blue Bat of Baltimore?” Nash raised his arms in the air with the coffee pot in his right hand. They both laughed, then he took a seat and became serious.

“After losing that Governor’s race I went into deep depression and also went through a divorce. I was done with public life. Before becoming a wrestler I had attended college for one year in Virginia. So I went back to college, got a degree and then got a job as a court clerk. The Blue Bat gimmick started after I went back to college.”

“ A part-time gig?” May asked.

“Yes it was and I even used it later, on the weekends, after I went to work at the courthouse. Then one night in Mississippi, Howard Long stole my attire and became The Blue Bat of Baltimore.”

"The wrestler who also was a famous con man. Today he works at a YMCA in Ohio.”

Nash laughed, “You have a head full of information.”

“I read a lot and study the things that interest me.”

“Now you have met me, what are your future plans?”

“I plan to write a book.”

“Well if you plan to write a book about me you are too late. My daughter wrote a story about my life.”

“My book will not be entirely about you. It is going to be about my travels and the people I meet along the way.”

“Do you plan to meet Howard Long?” Nash asked.

“I saw him one, but did not talk to him.” replied May. “Now seeing you I plan to write my book.”

“So I am the final chapter?”

“You can say that."

Nash Gamett and May Eleven

Four hens roosted side by side in contentment, as the thief crept slowly inside the hen house. “Just hold it right there,” said a voice. The thief heard the click of a gun. “Now turn around real slow.”

The man holding the rifle saw that the thief was wearing a mask. “Take off that mask real slow. Be careful or I’ll shoot.!”

Long blonde hair started flowing once the mask was removed. The man was taken back and almost lowered his gun. “Tell me your name, young lady.”

“May Eleven.”

“May Eleven! What kind of name is that?”

“That was the name given to me by the orphanage back east.  May 11th was the day I was left on the doorstep.”

“So you are a runaway?”

“Not anymore,” May replied, “I am 20 years old and now on my own. Go ahead and call the sheriff. Going to jail is nothing new.”

The man lowered his rifle. “Get out here! If I see you around here again, I will call the law.”

“I will be on my way. One reason I came to this area was to meet you. The great Nash Gamett, The Blue Bat of Baltimore.”

“So you came all this way just to see an old has been,” Nash said with a laugh.

“You were world champion and even ran for Governor.

“That was a long time ago.You also must know that I never sought public office again. A retired clerk at the courthouse. For a while I did wrestle part-time under a mask.”

“I know all these things. Along with being a wrestling fan, I am also an avid reader.”

“Well go ahead and grab a few eggs,” Nash said as he turned away to leave the hen house.

“Huh?”

“Well that is what you came for was some eggs and to see me. Since you come all this way I guess we can visit over fried eggs and coffee,” Nash walked away.

May placed her hand under the hens, who made a noise and some resistance before surrendering their eggs. She was out of money and had not eaten in two days. Now she was going to eat them cooked with something to drink.

Nash Gamett Retires

Nash Gamett left the courthouse for the last time. He had worked as a court clerk for 28 years. His co-workers wanted to give him a retirement party, but he wanted his departure to be as private as possible.

Before making it home, Nash stopped at the grocery store for some late time snacks. In the parking lot his friend Jim was sitting in his truck with the window rolled down.

“How is it going Nash?” Jim asked.

“Pretty good,” Nash replied, “Today was my last day at the courthouse. As of now I am officially retired.”

“What are going to do with all that free time?” Jim asked.

“Going to read, watch TV and run the roads. Even bought a few chickens to have something to do outdoors.”

Jim laughed, “That doesn't sound like you.”

“I’m tired Jim, just ready to relax my last years in life. No fanfare and no drama.” Nash started walking away and started waving. “See you later Jim.”

“See you later Nash.”

In the Meadow 🦅🐦

In the meadow the eagles soar with the rhythm of bluebird's singing. Covered with daffodils in spring and covered with snow during the winter. The world around changes but the meadow stays the same. 🦅🐦
