Gustav realized that Heindrick's conversation with lady in the pink dress was very personal. As he walked away he noticed that his mom had the door cracked spying on them. "Why doesn't she just tell him how she feels," Gustav said as he continued walking down the street."
The lady in the pink dress had tears in her eyes. Gustav's mom could not hear the conversation, but she knew the lady had a broken heart. "Surely a woman of standing is not in love with a man like Heindrick?" She asked herself. Then again she really knew nothing of his past.
Gustav's mom closed the door and was walking when she heard the lady yell, "Hendrick please do not walk away! You were never the same after the war! You need help and I can it find for you!"
"Farewell Valentina," Heindrick said as he turned and walked away. "You will never understand how someone can be happy and have no material things."
"Heindrick!" He looked to his right and it was Gustav's mom. "Would you like to come over for dinner tonight?"
"I would love too."
